Desert
House

A house that protects from the desert without turning away from it.

The plan is organised as a sequence of shaded rooms around planted courtyards. Instead of treating the landscape as a distant view, the architecture pulls fragments of it inward: a single tree, a strip of sky, warm reflected light, the sound of water. Heavy stone walls provide thermal mass while deep overhangs and recessed glazing reduce direct solar gain.

The palette was designed to age, not to stay new.

Travertine, brushed oak, bronze and mineral plaster were selected for how they respond to use and time. Junctions are intentionally quiet; doors align flush with walls, services disappear into shadow gaps and artificial light is used only where needed.
